BuildingsElm Ridge is a prime example of community partnerships in action. Developed by Kehilla with Jewish Family and Child Service, Elm Ridge was initially operated by the Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care and is currently operated by Reena as an elder home for Jewish developmentally challenged seniors. Kehilla has been instrumental in ensuring that this 14-bed seniors group home has remained in the Jewish Community.
Sponsored by Baycrest, this building offers life-lease housing as an alternative choice for independent seniors with the benefit of home ownership and equity in a communal environment. It was especially designed to address the physical, social and support issues related to aging. KRP initiated the project and acted as development consultant.
Habayit Shelanu ("our home") is another example of Kehilla's expertise in creating innovative community partnerships in housing. Developed with, and now operated by Circle of Care, this 59-unit project was conceived to meet the needs of Jewish seniors in downtown Toronto. Opened in the spring of 1995, Habayit Shelanu provides a setting for independent living, and was planned to enable aging in place with appropriate supports.
