Our Impact

Making a
Difference

Kehilla works to make a difference in people’s lives, allowing them to be housed affordably in the Jewish Community.

We are proud of the way we have improved lives by providing access to affordable housing. We are privileged to be able to share their stories here.

Creating Community Through Affordable Housing

Marlene is one of hundreds of vulnerable people in Toronto who struggle to afford housing. Watch the video above to learn about her story.

Supporting Jewish Ukrainians Arriving in Toronto

Leonid Markunin, 65, lived near the seaside in Odessa, Ukraine, with his wife Liana. When their city came under attack, the pair began a tense week-long journey to Toronto. Thanks to support from Jewish Immigrant Aid Services and a referral to Kehilla, they were housed in the Jewish Community close to their family.

Honouring Holocaust Survivors

Sam is a Holocaust Survivor who was living in his car. NO Holocaust Survivor should ever be homeless. Kehilla worked with Sam to provide him with permanent, affordable housing supported with Rental Assistance to ensure he could pay his rent and live with dignity in a safe and caring community.

Helping Women Fleeing Domestic Violence

Anne, a single mother in her 60s, left her abusive husband in Israel and immigrated to Canada for a better life. She found work as a translator in Toronto but could not make ends meet.  Thanks to Kehilla, she is living in an affordable one-bedroom apartment. She receives RAP in order to maintain her apartment, and in her words she “not only survives, but thrives.”

Providing Stability Through Housing

Helene is a single woman in her 40s who lost her job during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her rent was increased beyond her means.  Kehilla supported her by providing affordable housing along with RAP to make her rent more affordable. Thanks to the assistance she received, Helene was able to go back to school to retrain for a second career.
